A one-of-a-kind instrument supporting the next generation of explorers

Auction to support the Proctor Foundation for Art and Science Space Camp Scholarships

Created to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to orbit Earth, the Inspiration Guitar brings together spaceflight history, artistry, and music. Auction proceeds will support the Proctor Foundation for Art and Science Space Camp Scholarship Program, which provides community college students and faculty with transformative learning experiences at Space Camp.

A Piece of Spaceflight History

The Inspiration Guitar features artifacts flown in Earth orbit by Inspiration4 mission pilot Dr. Sian Proctor, including a challenge coin and a signed J.E.D.I. space patch designed by Dr. Proctor. The coin rotates within the guitar's Dragon capsule-shaped headstock. Luthier artists Dru Lore of Dru Lore Vintage Amplifier Repair and Matt Schaub of Fret About This designed and built the guitar as a functional work of art.

  • LED lighting inspired by the Earth Light witnessed by Dr. Proctor from orbit

  • A removable ground control style microphone

  • Landing gear style kickstand

  • Engine-turned aluminum spacecraft-inspired accents

  • A signed Inspiration4 mission patch

  • DiMarzio F-spaced PAF humbuckers 

  • Three outputs for the guitar, microphone, and a blended signal

Dimensions: 38.75 inches long, 13 inches at the widest point, approximately 8.5 pounds.

For example, I could put one student in charge of reading the lab protocol with another one having to follow the verbal instructions. I also like the idea of incorporating more problem solving into my lessons. For example, rather than explaining how something happens in Biology, I could provide the students with a scenario and see how they would solve it if they could and then relate that back to how the mechanism evolved."

About Space Camp:

Space Camp has been helping inspire the next generation of explorers for more than 42 years. This internationally known program with more than one million alumni is based on NASA astronaut training and focuses on teamwork and leadership skills. Launched in 1982, Space Camp has inspired and motivated young people from around the country, and later the world, with attendees from all 50 states, U.S. territories, and 150 foreign countries. We offer space, aviation and robotics camps to children between the ages of 9 to 18, adults of all ages, families, and educators.

Donors who contribute $10 or more will be invited to an exclusive virtual, behind-the-scenes conversation with Dr. Sian Proctor and the guitar team about the inspiration for the guitar, how it was created, and the story behind the auction (date to be determined).
